Letter from the Editor: Thoughts on the Honor America Days Parade

For the past twenty-four years, the Rome Chamber of Commerce has organized what has become a treat for young and old- the Honor America Days Parade. With all the candy, marching bands, and hot rods, we need to take a moment to remind ourselves of the real intent of this event.
Being first generation American, my parent's names are in the computer databank on Ellis Island. They came to this country not only for the growth of spirit that comes with being free, but also for the opportunities for financial growth that abound in a democratic society. The theme for this year's parade was "Things Rome Grown"…how appropriate when looked at in conjunction with the financial growth of our area, and the re-growth of our own organization.
Merely six months ago, many of us were unsure of our club's longevity, but our pride in our club's heritage helped us look forward to the future. With each event that we put on, we continue to attract more new members; like moths to the flame, they come not for the cars, but for the warmth and enthusiasm that we radiate. Our growth in numbers is a significant indicator of the kind of things that are possible when we truly believe in ourselves and each other, and continue to work together as the family that we are.
Our standard of excellence in our club events is a benchmark upon which growth is possible. This celebration of our achievement culminates in the parade; this is our annual opportunity to put a face to our organization, to show that the Tappet Twirlers Automobile Club is not just a logo on a tee shirt. The parade is our opportunity to show the City of Rome that our organization is the mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews of Rome and the surrounding communities. This is our opportunity to say "thank you" to our neighbors and friends for the support they continue to give the club by attending our events, after all, what's a show without spectators? I also, would like to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to the club members and their families for the tremendous job everyone is doing to make this Cruise season relaxing, enjoyable, and tons of fun! See you all at the next Cruise. Marie

The Christmas party will be at Katy and Karl's in Camden first Friday in December (Dec. 7th), starting at 7 PM. Details to follow- this event will be fabulous! Please contact Marie if you plan on attending (794-8860).

Mustang Alley - from Dick Bronson

The 1966 Mustang faced no real opposition; one reason why 1966 was its best year ever, with over 6,000,000 cars sold.
Wow Dick, that's a lot of Pony's!

Notes from the Car Club Association Meeting held August 14th, by Aric Penfield CNYCCA:

Larry Natarelli represented our club at the Association meeting held August14th.
The meeting was called to order at 6:58 PM by the President, Dennis Connor.
Dennis introduced Samantha Cattaneo from Camp Good Days and Special Times and she spoke on the Road Rally coordinated by the CNY PT Cruiser Owner's Club to benefit the camp. The camp provides local free camping services to children with Cancer, HIV, Sickle Cell Anemia or those affected by a homicide of a relative and also current or former adult Cancer patients. The event takes place September 23rd rain or shine and registration is at the Driver's Village in Clay or the Hozelton dealerships in Rochester. You will be touring wine country and ending up at Camp Good Days on Keuka Lake. Camping season will be over but tours will be available and there will be food and awards. Your club will have registration forms. Registration is $25.00 per car with two people. Additional people can eat for $5 each. There are three different classes according to skill level and it is open to anything on wheels. Also they are hoping that other clubs will join in sponsoring the event. With a donation of $100 your club's name will appear on the banner and in the information packets.
In recapping the Syracuse Nationals, thanks were given to Tappet Twirlers, Oneida Lake AACA, PT Cruisers, Prison City Ramblers, Syracuse Shelby Mustang Club, Kruising Knights, G M Kruzzers, Poor Boys, Paddock Lawn Care, Zappala Excavating, Orchard Valley Country Club and Howard and Dorothy Downing for their monetary contributions to run the refreshment center for the volunteers. Thanks were given to Arnie and his crew for their work at the room getting all the food and drink ready.
Dennis Gage showed up at the Nationals but never interviewed Dennis Connor. Our Dennis introduced himself but Mr. Gage showed no recognition of him or the Association. He did come through the Cargill Building several times mostly to use the facilities.
Ron Reardon of the GM Kruzzers thanked all those who worked in the Cargill Building.
In other news two clubs have complained about clubs not being faithful to our own events and passing right by on the way to other events. Our member's events should be supported first.
Dennis has been approached by Sara Ross, daughter of Tony Ross, a local car guy. She is Assistant Dean of Student Life at S.U. They are trying to work on enhancing community activity and are looking for cars for a Homecoming Parade at 5 PM on October 12th. The parade will last a half hour. There will be food served on the quad that evening.
The list of your club's workers from the Nationals needs to go to Dennis. Please let Marie know.
We would like to get information from the clubs for statistics when we need to make a point. We would like to find out how much each club gives to charity outside of our work at the Nationals so that we can show that impact. In addition we would like to know how many of your members are Right Coast members, and how many members register for the Nationals.
Meeting adjourned 8 PM. Minutes submitted by Aric Penfield, Secretary.
