February 2007 Newsletter

Due to inclement weather the meeting of 02-06-07 at Lake Delta Fire House, was cancelled.

Notes from the Car Club Association Meeting held February 13th
The following three members of the Tappet Twirlers attended the monthly meeting at Barbagallo's: Mike Szara (our club's "Right Coast" representative), Larry Natarelli, and Jim Rasmussen.
The topics discussed included the continuing progress for the International Show Case of Cars slotted for March 23rd - 25th at the NYS Fair Grounds. A representative from our Canadian neighbors was in attendance to support the fact that it is an international show. Canadians have cars that are of different models than ours, and display in a different manner. The committee for this show insured us that it would be most interesting from a car and display concept. Our club should participate in this event, not only for show, but also to support this event by our attendance.
The next topic on the agenda dealt with the North East Classic Car Museum in Norwich. It came as a disappointment to the organizers of the Syracuse Nationals who were in hopes that the Museum would bring Franklins, and other cars manufactured in New York, for display in the Cargil Building; unfortunately, the Museum has declined to participate. Dennis O'Connor, head of the Central NY Car Association, is open to ideas to substitute for the loss of the Norwich Museum. You can contact Dennis thru our website- go to Central NY Car Association, left side blue logo- Dennis's email address is there.
Good news from the Nationals- they are organizing a "Cruise" along the Onondaga Parkway for all registered show cars. A deputy Sherriff was at the meeting and explained some of the details. They will probably seek volunteers to help co-ordinate this event which is still in the early stages of planning. More details will follow as they become available.
A representative from the Central NY Truck Association gave us an update as to what their club was able to accomplish at one of their events. This was an absolutely amazing feat- they raised $10,000.00. That's right- TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS, which they donated to the Auto Tech Program at Morrisville College. The money will be used to further the education of students in the auto/truck field. Last year the students built a Ford Cobra replica, which turned out awesome. Kudos to that club for a job well done. It must have taken careful planning and organization.
Another subject that was brought up has a familiar tone to it. A well known, long existing car club, The Central NY Street Rods, reported that they will not be having their show this year. This is an unfortunate turn of events. The reason they gave was the fact that no body would step up and take the reins; it is always left to the same people to do the work all the time. After this was said, a moan went thru the meeting hall- it seems as if this is a subject that plagues a lot of clubs. The question that came to my mind is "What can we do", with "WE" being the key word. "WE" are a club; "WE" share the same interest and love of our hobby. "WE" love to share ideas, "WE" need to have fun, and "WE" need not to be competitive amongst ourselves. "WE" need to get back to our roots; "WE" need that old Chevy vs Ford thing, and throw in a MOPAR or two. Let's take that knife blade down, rub it on a rock, and take the edge off! Let's pursue our common interest. This is the best group of people I know. Together we stand tall in salute to our founders of this organization. Let's keep it "rolling"! Jimmy Rasmussen
