January 2007 Newsletter

·        50 members attended the meeting held on 01-02-06 at Lake Delta Fire House.

·        The meeting opened with discussions on the by-laws and changes that the Board of Directors deemed

needed to be made as follows:

o       Change to 2/3 majority of the members in attendance at the meeting to change a by law

o       Assistant secretary position needs to be reinstated

o       There was much discussion on the issue of dues and raising the membership fee to $20. A motion was made to pay a $10 dues fee this June and $20 in Jan 2008; motion was seconded-vote taken: all in favor except 1.

·        There was discussion on the cost of club events and the membership determined that any event that involves

money should be paid for by the member (Christmas Party). A motion was made that every event you

attend, you pay for; motion was seconded. Vote taken- four opposed.

·        There was discussion on Photography costs and other avenues such as upload to shutter fly, etc. much

discussion on the use of digital and make CD’s of the club photos.  Motion was made and seconded to

make Don Davidson the chairman of the photography committee. Vote taken- unanimous.

·        Nominations: prior nominations and elections are negated. The following are the

nominations put forward by the members in attendance at this meeting, with elections

to be held at the next meeting:

Dan’s term)  Lenny Johnson,  Paul Stife, David Esch, Bob Leonard

·        Length of office for club officers: there was discussion to shorten the terms, making it easier on the officer

and better for the club. After going over the by laws, the board decided to go back to one year terms for all

positions except for the board of directors. The Board of Directors will still hold two year terms. There is no

longer an automatic up move from VP to Pres. The outgoing President becomes the Director of the Board of

Directors.  A motion was made and seconded, and a vote taken; one member opposed.

·        There was discussion on “improper behavior”; we cannot tolerate people representing the club using bad

behavior at events. The board has the authority to act on this. Bruce presented a statement which he read to

the membership at the meeting. The contents of the document need to be reviewed by the board and posted

in the newsletter. The contents of the document are show below; further discussion was tabled until the next

      meeting.

Notes from the Car Club Association Meeting held January 9th

·        The following five members of the Tappet Twirlers attended the monthly meeting at Barbagallo’s: Mike

·        Szara, Larry Natarelli, Dick Bronson, Jim Rasmussen, and Nick Lombardo Jr.

·        The discussion opened with information about the Nationals in July and that they are trying very hard to get Dennis Gage from the show, “My Classic Car” in attendance. They are also working to get cooperation from the North East Classic Car Museum (in Norwich) to sport a Deusengerg/Franklin/Pierce Arrow, to the Cargil Building, under the theme of “Cars Built in New York”.

·        There was discussion pertaining to members of the Association who had attended a SIMA meeting in Massachusetts, with the intention of trying to convince lawmakers and legislators to stop pointing an accusing finger at car clubs for polluting our environment! Dennis O’Connell, President of the Central NY Association, pointed out that we contribute less than 1% of the environmental stress from the cars we drive as a hobby. He also stated that as a group, individual clubs need to join forces and let our local Legislators know how strongly we feel about our hobby.

·        Bob Hoffman was in attendance to report on the up coming annual event at the Syracuse Fair Grounds, March 23rd, 24th and 25th. This event is called the International Auto Show Case; years ago, they named it the Motorama. He is looking to have cars from various clubs in attendance for this event. Last year, we as a club, sported 8 cars for the 3 day event. It was a “very nice show” and every car came away with a trophy. Ninety percent of the cars in attendance were first place cars. Each car was judged against itself from a form compiled with information pertaining to your car’s class. The review of the form generated the points that your car received.  If you are interested in attending, the forms are available from the following sources:

o       Internet web site: www.internationalasc.com

o       e-mail rhoffman1@twcny.rr.com

o       Jim Rasmussen has some available at Auto Zone

·        A good showing for our club would be at least 8 to 10 cars...it would be great for our club and the Central

NY Car Association (to which we pay dues to).

“ It’s an early start to Spring, who cares- the cars can be washed...Let’s have fun!!!!!”

                                                                                                                 Jimmy Rasmussen
