July 2007 Newsletter
Notes from the July 3rd Membership Meeting:
*The monthly meeting was held at the Delta Lake Fire Dept 7:07 p.m.; 26
members were in attendance.
Sue DeFazio sent to the meeting via Bill, some delicious cupcakes and a thank
you note to the club. Thanks Sue, and best wishes for your continued recovery!
*The membership renewal report was given by Marie; we are doing great and
growing with new members.
*Miles gave the financial report, and we are selling "a lotta" ice cream floats!
Motion to accept financial report was seconded and accepted by all.
*Brian Esch gave the sponsor report for the Rock around the Dock. We need more
volunteers for this event. August 5th is the event. We will meet every week
until then, on Tuesday- just like our membership meetings- 7pm; bring a lawn
chair. Dave printed up fliers for the Rock around the Dock- let's get them out
in town. The tickets for the Rock around the Dock will be promoted every Friday
night until all sold.
*There was discussion on owing our own pop up tents; motion made and seconded to
buy three- voted and accepted by all.
*We had over 130 cars last Friday night (June)! Thanks to all our
participating members and spouses.
*There was discussion on the time for the 50/50 drawing at the Friday Cruises.
*Our website is updated quickly and beautifully, thanks Shadow!
*There was a continuation of previous discussion on "members only" shirts. Nick
Lombardo did a "show and tell" modeling the Corvair Club jackets- nice jacket
Nick!
*The Christmas party will be at Katy and Karl's in Camden first Friday in
December (Dec. 7th), starting at 7 PM. Motion was made and seconded to have
discussion on the floor. After the discussion, a vote was taken and all in
favor- YEAH! Details to follow- this event will be fabulous!
*Dues were due July 1st. Motion was made and seconded- accepted by all that dues
are not based on a 12 month cycle. As voted on earlier this year, the renewals
are due in June, or the member is delinquent and will be dropped, until they
pay.
*50/50 held- winner Al Tomassi. Motion to adjourn the meeting made; meeting
ended at 8:40 PM.
*WOW- we had over 125 cars at the July 13th Cruise, and 100 Bucks to give
away in the 50/50! What a great season. Thanks to everyone for making it happen.
Notes from the Car Club Association Meeting held July 12th, by
Aric Penfield CNYCCA:
*Five members of the Tappet Twirlers attended the Central Car Club Association
meeting July 7th at Barbegallo's in Syracuse: Nick Lombardo, Mike Szaraz,
Larry Natarelli, Dick Bronson and Jim Rasmussen.
*The July 10, 2007 meeting of the Central New York Car Club Association was
called to order at 7:08 PM by the President, Dennis Connor.
*Thursday night of the Syracuse Nationals will be the Cruise of the Onondaga
Lake Parkway from 7-9. Entrance will be on the Park Street end only and speed
will be in the 17-20 mph range. Open headers will be allowed. Cars must show
proof of registration to the Nationals either by the sticker on the car or
your confirmation letter. Some persons will be needed on the Parkway as
security and six will be needed in the Park's parking lots near the Salt
Museum. Call Dennis to volunteer.
*Please have your club rep call Dennis at 469-0913 to make sure you are doing
the same job at the Nationals as before or if you would like a different job.
Changes include elimination of the paid guards at gates 10 and 11 so more
staff will be needed there.
*To display in the Cargill Building please call Terri Reardon at 676-2815.
They need the names and how many cars from any club to plan the layout.
Remember that cars newer than the event cut off year must be displayed in the
Cargill Building and are only allowed on the grounds as members of an
Association club. Terri says they can use some more workers so please call
Dennis to arrange your help.
*Thursday of the Nat's includes the Poker Run with sign up at the hotel from
8-12. The run ends at 5 PM with 7 stops and 58 miles. Also Thursday is the
picnic at Oneida Shores County Park. Admission is free but again you need your
letter or car sticker. The time is 11-3.
*The stickers will be outside stickers again and must be affixed to your car.
If you want to get in the Cargill building you will need a Cargill sticker.
See the above information on that topic.
*Remember that the Auction by Tri State Auction is separate from the Nationals
but held there. Auction cars without a Nationals sticker must go back to the
auction parking area.
*Prison City Ramblers requested that the golf cart issued to them could be
controlled by them as it is there to allow the car corral and flea market to
remain organized. Special stickers are issued for the car corral. Some try to
park there with a regular sticker. *The car corral sticker costs more and
those without need to move or pay. A formal plan for this action needs to be
put in place.
*Aaron Reed of the Poor Boys spoke on the grandstand events at the Nationals
including Friday's Stunt Show, Saturdays Demo Derby, Sunday's Auto Soccer and
the Burnout contests each day. The Auto Soccer is a grudge match of sorts
between Massachusetts guys and New York guys. Older vehicles are needed as
donations for that particular event. Prizes are involved in both the Auto
Soccer and Burn out contests.
Blast from the Past- from Dick Bronson
A car ad for a Mustang "back in the day would have read like this:
Mustang Alley: Unexpected Price! $2,368!!! This low price includes such a
generous helping of basic equipment that many people will find nearly all they
could ask for in the standard Mustang. Small wonder, because Mustang is so
complete, it includes many items which come on other cars only at extra cost- or
not at all!
The Cadillac Ranch, located along the tatters of historic Route 66, was built in 1974, brainchild of Stanley Marsh III, the helium millionaire who owns the dusty wheat field where it stands. Marsh and The Ant Farm, a San Francisco art collective, assembled used Cadillacs representing the "Golden Age" of American Automobiles (1949 through 1963). The ten graffiti-covered cars are half-buried, nose-down, facing west "at the same angle as the Cheops' pyramids."
In 1997, development creep forced Marsh to move the entire
assemblage about two miles further west. The line of cars is far enough out in a
field to allow for suitably bleak photography. The distance from any authority
also encourages ever-mutating layers of painted graffiti, which Marsh doesn't
seem to mind. The Cadillac Ranch influenced subsequent artistic works wrought in
Detroit metal. Witness Alliance, NE's over-the-top Carhenge and Berwyn, IL's
Cars-on-a-Spike.
