March 2007 Newsletter
Notes from the March 1st Board of Directors Meeting, by Jimmy Rasmussen:
The board members held a meeting at Carbone Ford of Rome at 7:00 pm; many
issues were discussed including the direction the club was headed, and our
Friday Night Cruise In's. We had in depth discussion on the reforming of the
Copper City Cruizers, and its effects on our activities. We also discussed the
vacancies in our leadership in relation to where we felt our club need to be.
After a couple of hours of discussion, a unanimous decision was made that we
investigate what happened with certain areas of our web site; it was a rather
inspiring evening.
The group in attendance was definitely motivated, to say the least. We looked at
how long this club has been established (53 plus years); thru thick and thin we
always prevail, no matter what happens or has happened. As long as we stand
united, and get back to the basics, we will carry on the legacy of the Tappet
Twirlers. We love what we do; we love what we stand for; we love the challenge;
maybe we needed a wake up call. What ever the case may be, we will strive
forward.
Notes from the March 7th Membership Meeting by Jimmy Rasmussen:
The following Tuesday we held our monthly 7 PM meeting at Delta Lake Fire
House. The Board of Directors sat at the head table and presided over the
meeting; Dick Bronson took the lead in conducting the meeting.
The first topic discussed was our Friday Night Crusie In's. At first we
questioned whether or not we wanted to continue on and pursue this, or give it
up this year. One of our newest members, Bob Benzing, raised his hand and asked
to speak. After his request was granted, he made a great point- "We have
established this ground for several years, why give it up now?" Those few words
ignited new life into the members, and enthusiasm ran thru the meeting. Let's
continue with it; let's work together; let's have the fun and interest we've had
for all these years! Numerous members signed up to help in this endeavor, BUT,
more help is needed. Committees will be formed; the program will be scaled back
and we will be sticking to the basics (this was the general consensus).
The next order of business was to elect our new officers. Ballots were made and
distributed; the votes were cast and the results are as follows:
o President- Rick Aiello
o Vice president- b
o Treasurer- Miles Thompson
o Secretary- Marie Gauci
o Assistant Secretary- Brian Getbehead
o Board of Directors:
" 2yr term- Paul Strife
" 2yr term- Dave Esch
" 1yr term- Lenny Johnson
Let's welcome our new officers and work with them!
Twenty members were in attendance for this meeting; 21 were excited about the
Tappet Twirlers. In writing this news letter I forgot to mention the absence of
Larry Natarelli who could not attend because of a work related seminar near
Albany. He did pass down to me (Jimmy) prior to his trip some club mail. We
received an invitation from the chamber of commerce inviting us to participate
at the home show in April- "a good idea ". Let's be involved with our city,
parades, events, etc- whatever we can do to support our community. Another
letter was read from the welcome hall asking for a donation to their cause,
which will be discussed at a later date.
The ball is rolling! With cooperation and dedication, the Tappet Twirlers is,
and always will be, the best car club in Central NY.
I would like to personally thank the club for letting me fill in with note
taking for the absence of our secretary, Marie. She will be back soon, as long
as she listens to her doctors and follows all their directions. Get well soon,
from the Tappet Twirler Car Club!
Notes from the Car Club Association Meeting held March 13th by Jimmy
Rasmussen:
Four members from the Tappet Twirlers were in attendance: Larry Natarelli, Mike
Szara, Dick Bronson, and Jimmy Rasmussen.
The meeting started out very light hearted with lots of laughter, jokes, and a
completely relaxed atmosphere.
They presented a guest speaker from the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research
Fund, expressing gratitude for all the work that the local clubs do to raise
money for this great cause. Thousands of dollars each year are raised thru
events sponsored by the generosity and participation of the clubs in the
Association.
A list of events are coming starting in May; I have a pamphlet for Carol
Baldwin, with dates and times, which I will forward to Marie for posting in our
news letter.
Further discussion was made about the Syracuse Nationals, with the main topic
being the Saturday Cruise from the Fair Grounds, down the Onondaga Parkway and
back. There were some pros and cons as follows: on the pro side, it would be
great for the people not so lucky to be able to attend the nationals personally,
to see a group of fine automobiles cruise by. On the con side, it might distract
the group entering the event, and encourage them to not pay to see the whole
show. Since there are two ways to look at this the, thought of how lucky it
would be for those not fortunate enough to attend the event to be able to see
some of the cars for free. This would also be providing people with the
inspiration for the imagination as to see what they might be missing by not
attending the event. A vote was taken with the clubs in attendance to support
the parade. This will be forward to the event coordinators to analyze; in my
opinion, it would be great. It's a short season; lets show off our pride and
joys!
The International Show Case of Cars will be March 23-25, as stated in previous
Tappet Twirler newsletters. I hope to have pictures and interviews with some
unique people, sharing their love of this great hobby.

Keep in Your Thoughts and Prayers
If you know of a member and/or family member who has died, is hospitalized, or
ill, let us know so we can keep them in our prayers.
Our friend, and long time member of the club, Bruce Wilkie, is very ill with
bone cancer in his spine. Some of you have asked if I had a current address for
him. His sister-in-law, Donna Wilson, has passed it on to me; she also said that
he misses hearing from his friends at the club, and that he needs some cheering
up:
Bruce Wilkie
1275 Kimbro Road
Murrfreesboro, Tenn. 37128
Bill Defazio's wife, Sue, is still ill; please keep her in your thoughts and
prayers.
Dave Esch's wife, MaryAnn is recovering from surgery; please keep her in your
thoughts and prayers.

If your ride won a trophy, received an award or was featured in a publication,

Blast from the Past
March is National Women's History Month: Where would we be without their
inspiration?
Since 1962, and each year since then, Chicago citizens have dyed the Chicago River green on St. Patrick's Day. To the great disappointment of college students in the Chicago area, it is still just water, not beer!
