May 2007 Newsletter

Notes from the May 1st Membership Meeting:

The monthly meeting was held at the Delta Lake Fire Dept 7:07 p.m.; 28 members were in attendance.
The meeting started off with Rick discussing the sponsorship progress for the Cruise' Ins.
The Saturday before the first show (12th), we need to walk thru the Church parking lot and do some clean up. Meet at 1:00 PM and bring a broom if you have one.
We have a food vendor locked in- Dave Strange, who has a very professional set up and can do the whole show. The Board of Directors approved this. He will provide a special price for us, to enable families to come down and bring the kids for dinner.
The sign up sheet for the Cruise Ins is set up to rotate volunteers once every 5 weeks. If you have not signed up to help out yet, and you do, call Rick. The calendar will be posted inside the building for your review, as well with as the newsletter. Show up time is 5 PM. Lots of the members will have their wives assisting on the ice cream stand which is great!
Kim Rodgers from the Rome City Hall Promotions Dept. said they would love to have us on Wednesday nights, as well as Taste of the Arts.
See Bob Leonard and Jim Rasmussen for the Taste of the Arts.
See Dave and Brian Esch for Rock around the Docks.
Roger Giourard picked up the ball for the Honor America Parade committee. The Chamber of Commerce needs to be notified of the new POC. Discussion was made about the donation to the Chamber for the Parade, as was done in the past. Sign up sheet was set up for volunteers.
Our plaques for the Rock around the Dock and the Cruise Ins are looking great- thanks Dick Bronson!
The Cruise International was discussed with great enthusiasm. Please sign up for this busy, but fun day.
Dave Esch will assist with printing needs, but we need a few new banners and a root beer float sign.
Dues are due in two parts: $10 in June and $10 in January. See Brian Getbehead, Dave Esch and Miles Thompson; you may also mail your dues to the Club's address:

ROME, NEW YORK 13442
There was discussion on selling the club raffle tickets. Brian Esch will print the tickets, Rodger Smith, Dave Esch and Paul Strife will help Brian.
Please help the club save money on stamps! We are spending approximately $50 per month on postage, and this price will be going up the middle of this month. If you have an email address, please sign up to receive the newsletter via email.
Discussion on decals for the cars; this will be looked into.
Cruise T shirts should be without a year, except year of club inception, in a neutral color, and at a reasonable price- vote was taken and passed unanimously.
Nice looking jackets for to be ordered for club "Members Only" was discussed and Rick Aiello will look into it.
A personal request from Jimmy Rasmussen: "I am asking for club support in an event that is coming up June 9th. A personal friend and co worker of my son Justin and Laurie, at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy here in Rome, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, which has traveled to the lungs. Pam Litler is the woman whom this benefit is for. What is being asked is that if we could, as a group, bring our cars to the Taberg Fireman's Field Pavilion on this day. Drivers of the cars will receive free food and drink for their support; passengers are requested to donate to benefit for Pam's cause. Of course any donation would be gladly received. There will be bands- music of all varieties all day long. The benefit starts at 1:00 till??? This is a re-occurrence for Pam. Any thing we can do as group to draw attention for her cause, would be greatly appreciated; if you have any questions or need contact information please call 338-7911 option 0 ask for Laurie/ Kelly; or email probe2853@aol.com. I personally thank you if we could gather a group of cars in support", Jim Rasmussen.
50/50 held- winner Daphne Gibbs for $21.
Motion to adjourn the meeting made; meeting ended at 8:10 PM.

Notes from the Car Club Association Meeting held May 8th, by Jimmy Rasmussen
:
Five members of the Tappet Twirlers attended the Central Car Club Association meeting May 8th at Barbegallo's in Syracuse: Nick Lombardo, Mike Szaraz, Larry Natarelli, Dick Bronson and Jim Rasmussen.
The meeting was rather short: further discussion was made of the Syracuse Nationals. They will be forming a parade from the event to downtown. On Thursday prior to the opening of the event, you must have your Nationals event sticker on your car to be in the parade. You can pick your sticker at the host hotel beforehand.
It was confirmed that Dennis Gage will be there, and possibly Barry Mcguire from Car Crazy. Mothers Car series is a possible show for the event. More and more national recognition is giving a great boost for the Nationals. Also in the Cargil bldg, DJ's will be playing music of the era. There will be a '36 Lincoln, and a '32 Franklin on display in the Building.
A list of twenty nine cars was given to staff coordinators of the Cargil building from our car club. That would be a great showing if we all participate from that list. It was conveyed to us, that we are welcome with that many cars. We are one of the few clubs in the building that can park that many cars in an organized fashion.
A note from the event organizers: anyone working the event receiving a T- Shirt must only wear that shirt when they are "On the Clock''. When you are not working, change into a different shirt. This will avoid the confusion of people asking questions, and club members replying with "I am not working at the moment".
If any one worked the event last year and has not received their complimentary invitation, they need to contact Dennis Connor from the Central N.Y car association. Dconnor4@twcny.rr.com He will be sure to get your pass.
Let's start our summer off with great friends and great cars! We love what we do.

Blast from the Past

Q: What is Clean Diesel?

A: Clean diesel or ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) is a cleaner-burning fuel designed to meet new EPA standards that will improve air quality.
Traditional diesel generates 10 times more particulate pollution, or soot, than gasoline. ULSD contains 97% less sulfur than regular diesel; this is important because sulfur hampers exhaust control devices. With ULSD, not only are sulfur emissions reduced, but so are emissions, including nitrous oxide.
