October 2007 Newsletter
Notes from the October 2nd Membership Meeting:
· The monthly meeting was held at the Delta Lake Fire Dept 7:00 p.m. and brought to order by club president Rick Aiello.
· The second order of business was the reading of the treasury report; we learned that our club had raised a total $1600.00 from our annual Rock around the Dock event at Bellamy Harbor Park. A motion was made and seconded to accept the financial report.
· The next subject was the annual Christmas party; at this point 75 members have signed up. The club will pay for club members. If any member selects to bring a guest, a payment of $15.00 is requested to be paid by the next meeting in November. Payment can be made in a couple of ways:
o The preferred method is to attend the next meeting "First Tuesday of November" at Lake Delta Fire House @ 7:00 p.m.
o If you are unable to attend the meeting, you are then asked to mail a check or money order to the Club PO Box: Tappet Twirlers P.O. Box 808, Rome N.Y. 13440
· This needs to be a priority since we need to have an accurate count for coordinating the event. We ask you to please cooperate.
· The next order of business was the discussion of the sponsor plaques for the choices made at the Rock Around the Dock event; they will be distributed to the sponsors. The plaques and pictures look great. The Club wishes to thank all those involved in the making of these plaques. A lot of personal time and effort went into the making of these plaques; you all deserve a pat on the back.
· Speaking of pats on the back! Everyone needs to reach over their own shoulder a give yourselves a pat; this was a remarkable cruise year for the club. Every single event was as smooth as glass and well organized. Everybody did an awesome job. Committees were made and everyone owned up to the task at hand. We can be proud of the stability this club has.
· A guest was in attendance to voice a sincere apology for any ill feelings. Bruce Melnick came purposely to offer his apologies. He offered to try to make peace from his point of view, and graciously stated that he has and always will be a supporter of the Tappet Twirler Car Club. He wishes that "we can" resolve the issues with the second club in Rome. He stated that his hands were tied as far as the Radio coverage and he offered to come back to be our host if we would like for him to do that. We thanked him for his point of view- the other matters will have to be discussed and voted on as far as future entertainment purposes.
· The next order of business was Bill Defazio’s presentation. He made a small presentation of possible signs, banners and magnetic signs for our events, shows parades, etc. Further discussion will ensue.
· The next order of business goes back to the discussion of the money raised for charity from the Rock Around the Dock. As we know a total of $1600.00 was raised. We have three Annual receipt ants of the funds:
o Welcome Hall total of $100.00
o R F A scholarship fund total of $100.00
o The Larry Rizzo fund total of $100.00
· A discussion on the wording of the Larry Rizzo Fund was brought up. As we all know, Larry was a very active member of our club. Discussion was made as to why this fund is a named after just one person- why not call it The Tappet Twirlers Memorial Fund? In this way, it will cover all members of our organization. A motion was made and seconded to accept the change in the wording of this fund. Because the motion was made now, it will not go into effect until next year’s Rock Around the Dock event (2008).
· The remaining $1300.00 was discussed and voted on to divide the money between 2 other charitable causes:
o $650.00 to Veterans trip to Washington
o $650.00 to the cancer fund organized by Syracuse's Basketball coach Jim Boeheim.
· Motions were made and seconded to accept these 2 charities for 2007.
· The next order of business was nominations for officers. The officers include President, Vice president, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and 3 positions for members of the board. The list of nominees is as follows:
o President: Rick Aiello
o Vice President: Roger Gourd
o Secretary: Marie Gauci
o Assistant Secretary: Brian Getbehead
o Treasurer. Miles Thompson
o Board member nominees (pick three):
§ Dick Bronson
§ Bob Benzing
§ Jim Rasmussen
§ Dennis Berry
§ Len Johnson
· Voting will be done by paper ballot at the next meeting in November; installation will be at the Christmas party.
· A friendly reminder: dues will be due Jan 2008. As we all know they will be Twenty dollars; maybe if you are good Santa will put it in your stocking!!!!
· On a special note to the club members and friends of Tommy Squires: as we all know Tommy had taken very ill on his job in Bangor, Maine. A letter was read to members in attendance of Tom's hard luck; apparently the motel Tom was staying at had an air-conditioner in the room with some very stale water in the tray of the air-conditioner. As it turned out the water was drenched with mold. The vapors of this mold were in the air while Tom was sleeping. He was unaware of the situation at that point; he continued his drive, and pulled into a rest stop were he apparently became incoherent. He was in this rest stop for a couple of days, when a State Trooper found him. When the trooper opened the door, which he had to force open, Tom fell out of the truck onto the pavement. Tom is currently in St Camillus Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse. He is in a very serious state. Doctors have determined that he has a form of LEGIONNAIRES disease. He is unable to walk or speak clearly, His arms and legs spasm. To help Tom, his wife Mary, and their son Luke, a fund raiser is being organized in their behalf:
Sunday October 14, 2007, a motorcycle/car ride will meet in the Village Park in Camden @12:30 pm. The ride will be going thru Blossvale where Tom lives; we don't know at this time if he will be home or not. The cost for the ride will be $10.00/ bike/$5.00additional rider, and $10.00 per car. This money if anything will certainly help with the expense of gas traveling to and from Syracuse.
· If anyone would wish to send Tom a card, his address is:
Tom Squires
Room 225
St Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center
813 Fay Rd
Syracuse N.Y 13219
· This letter was forwarded to the club by Frank Bergin. Frank can be contacted at 264-0973, or obergin@aol.com
· Motion to adjourn the meeting made; meeting ended at 8:40 PM.
